Southern Mongolian Human Rights Policy Act Reintroduced in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 119th Congress

The Southern Mongolian Human Rights Information Center (SMHRIC) welcomes the reintroduction of the Southern Mongolian Human Rights Policy Act (H.R. 6877) in the 119th Congress by Congressman Jim McGovern (D-MA) on December 18, 2025. The bill renews congressional efforts to address ongoing human rights abuses and to protect the cultural, linguistic, and fundamental freedoms of the six million Southern Mongolians living under the rule of the People’s Republic of China.
Congressman McGovern has long been a leading voice in Congress on human rights issues, and his decision to reintroduce this legislation reflects his tireless commitment to defending vulnerable and oppressed peoples worldwide, including the Southern Mongolians. The bill underscores the continued urgency of confronting China’s policies of repression, assimilation, and cultural erasure in Southern Mongolia.

The Southern Mongolian Human Rights Policy Act seeks to strengthen U.S. policy tools to monitor human rights conditions in Southern Mongolia, promote accountability for abuses, and reaffirm America’s support for the universal principles of freedom, human rights and cultural survival.
